Footlights
As the Wisconsin editor and digital content manager for Footlights, my responsibilities included writing and editing articles for the playbills and Footlights.com, managing our social media accounts, generating the weekly e-newsletter, and creating press releases and promotional materials for the Footlights People's Choice Awards. Here are some of my favorite stories from Footlights so far:
Taste of Home
Since interning for Taste of Home's books department during the summer of 2017, I have freelanced for its digital team, which publishes over 650 articles and slideshows a month at tasteofhome.com.
Marquette Wire
I started working for Marquette Wire my freshman year as a stringer for the arts and entertainment department. The Wire is MU's student media platform that launched January 2014 in order to bring the campus newspaper, magazine, radio and TV stations together on one site. I took over the arts and entertainment department my junior year when I became its executive editor and ran our magazine, the Marquette Journal, my senior year. Here is some of my work for the Wire.
Marquette Journal
Below are the fall and spring semester issues of the Marquette Journal. Serving as the magazine's editor was a pleasure and I loved working with the many writers, editors, photographers and designers on staff to put it together. Our fall issue won the Society of Professional Journalists National Mark of Excellence Award for Best Student Magazine.

Milwaukee Magazine
I served as an editorial intern for Milwaukee Magazine, a monthly city magazine, fall semester my senior year. My daily responsibilities included fact-checking, pitching story ideas and contributing to research projects. I also wrote pieces for milwaukeemag.com, which is updated daily. Working 20 hours a week in the MilMag office showed me how a professional magazine operates and inspired me to pursue a career in magazines after graduation.
Shepherd Express
In summer 2016, I served as an editorial intern for the Shepherd Express, Milwaukee's alternative weekly. Through this role I wrote articles and reviews for the newspaper's entertainment section. I also contributed to the planning and execution behind the Fall Arts Guide.
Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service
I interned for the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service fall semester my junior year, as well as wrote some freelance pieces for the news organization summer 2016. Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service covers urban issues and events for underreported Milwaukee communities.
The O'Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism
The O'Brien Fellowship pairs students with professional journalists as they spend nine months producing an in-depth public service journalism project. My junior year I assisted Dave Umhoefer, a a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, on his project examining Act 10’s effects on education in Wisconsin.
Design Work
In my magazine design and production class last semester we were divided into teams and instructed to redesign, Cultura, the arts magazine the senior capstone class creates, for our final project. Here is the design I created with my classmate Nicholas Molina.
Video Work
For my Digital Journalism III class we were instructed to create a video about an alum of the Trinity Fellows Program, a graduate fellowship program at Marquette dedicated to developing urban leaders with a commitment to social and economic justice. Fellows participate in a 21-month study/work program while earning a master's degree in one of fourteen fields of study.
